A1C Results

What is A1C?  Why is it important?   A1C measures the average blood glucose for the past 2-3 months.  It is recommend that children get this checked at least every 3 months, when they have their quarterly endo appointment.  As a parent of a child with diabetes, I often look at it as my report card.  It tells how well the numbers are control.  It also gives a good indication of if there will be complications later in life.

This is the Recommend A1C from our Diabetes Center.
Younger then 6 years old: A1C of less then 8%
Between 6 and 12 years old A1C less then 7.5%
Older than 12 years old A1C of less then 7%
